The Rookie Experience

Hard work, dedication, and perseverance are three things that come to mind when thinking about the fire service. For those of you who are already a part of the family you know what I say is true. This is my second year of summer fire fighting and also in studying fire science & technology. I welcome all of you who may be studying fire technology or considering a fire service career in your near future. I hope you will contribute your stories and fire photos to this column.

For those of you who are interested in joining the fire service, or who may be new to it, here's some advice from a rookie.   Also, check my article: "How to Become a Firefighter." For an up-close look at life at the fire academy, check out "Training Evolutions."

I recomend that people check out what's going on with their local fire department. Here's a local Spokane story.

Good luck,
Jess Wardwell
