More than 25 years ago Bruce Holloway joined the fire service. First,
he was a volunteer for a small department in California. In this farming
town of some 150 people, Holloway himself involved with farming, he
"joined up as a volunteer due to their dire need of firefighters."
Later, he "migrated North
over a circuitous route" to the small western town of Cheney, WA.
For the past 8 years he has been Chief of Spokane County Fire District
3. During his administration, he has seen several changes. Among these
are: an improved Insurance Services Organization ISO rating due to
the addition of Class A apparatus, an improved water supply and the
construction of new fire departments. Improved ISO rates can result
in reduced fire insurance rates for residents and local businesses.
Within Fire District 3 there are a little over a hundred members,
95% of which are volunteers. Throughout his career with Fire District
e Chief Holloway has seen continued support for his members.
Chief Holloway enjoys what he does so much, that he would "recommend
a career in the fire service to his own children."
