Spring
is Around the Corner |
| To all Junior
Show Members:
As I sit to write this update letter. The
sun is shining, snow is melting and I keep hoping
Spring is right around the corner. All Junior
Show animals should be purchased and in the
care of exhibitors. (Except for Lambs which
ownership date is 60 day, approximately March
1.)
Remember the Tail Dock rule will be strictly
enforced this year. I hope all of the lambs
will pass. Remember we are not doing this to
hurt the exhibitor. We are doing this to help
them, and enabling us to get better prices for
these animals.
The online entry system will once again be
up this year. There is a link on the web site.
This is an easy way to assure you get entered
properly with you doing it yourself.
The Dinner/Gala Auction is coming quickly.
I’m sending the letter prior for the reason,
I know we will much to busy afterwards to get
up update out. I’m keeping my fingers
crossed for another SUCCESSFUL year at the auction,
with lots of fun and memories made.
You should be getting camping letters soon,
from the fairgrounds, so be looking for that.
Also, I didn’t realize that I forgot the
judging contest entry form in the packet sent
out to leaders. Please either download it from
our website or I will be mailing it out with
the leader letters around the first of April
also. I apologize for this.

Two
Big Issues: Tail Docking and Quality Assurance
|
| Happy Thanksgiving
to Everyone-
Boy, this year is flying by as they all seem
to these days. The annual November meeting is
behind us.
As usually there were some important topics
addressed. These will be in the January 1st
letter put out to all 4-H leaders, FFA Advisors,
County Extension Agents, and Jr Show Past Exhibitors.
I will also put important notices on the Web
site, and anywhere and everywhere I can to educate
so there will be no surprises.
Probably the two biggest issues are the Lamb
Tail docking; that will be STRICTLY enforced
as per the rule this year. The other is the
importance of the CORRECT and COMPLETE information
on the Quality Assurance Forms. We are going
to do some education and get out as much information
as we can to assure that exhibitors will have
their form Correctly Completed when they get
their animal to the scale at weigh in.
So be looking for your packets right after
the First of the Year. The packet will include
all important information as well as entry information.
I wish everyone a wonderful Holiday Season!!
Sincerely
Lynn Cotter

Plan
for the 73rd!
|
| Happy Fall to
Everyone.
Boy, the weather sure cooled off quickly!!
Harvest is complete, County fairs are over,
Football is underway, and hunting season just
around the corner; and soon it is time once
again for the Semi annual Junior Livestock Show
meeting. This meeting will be held November
3rd at the County Extension Building on Havana.
Please mark your calendars and plan on attending.
This is the beginning of the planning for the
73rd annual Junior Livestock Show & Sale
that will be held May 6-11, 2008.
Dues can be paid at this meeting as well.
If you would like to be involved, this is your
chance to become a key player in the planning
of the show. I hate to say it this way, but
things will be changing this year. Treva is
turning more of the “reins” to me,
and like I have said all long, I need your help
to make this show more and more successful.
If we all work together, we can make this the
best show ever. I have a huge set of shoes to
fill. I really want this to keep growing and
being successful, and working together we can
do this. In the past Treva she taken on SO much
of this herself, so it is time for new people
to step up and help out.
I have a list of things that I’m going
to present during the meeting, that we will
need committees set up to complete. None of
these projects are big, if everyone steps up
and does one thing, but for one person to do,
this is huge. I may sound like a wimp, compared
to everything Treva has done over the years
herself, but as this show has continued to grow
into the huge production that is has, it takes
more and more man power to keep it a success.
I hope you see a great turn out at the November
3rd meeting. Committee meetings will be held
at 9:00am, General membership at 10:30am, to
be followed by the Board of Trustee, and then
the Executive board.
Don’t forget to utilize the Junior show
website classified section for minimal cost.
Contact the office if you would like to have
a classified listed.
Sincerely
Lynn Cotter

Show
2007 is Underway
|
|
Well the new year is off and running.
The initial informational packets have been
sent out and we have new people calling daily
to receive information. I have even received
the first paid entry back.
All the forms that were sent out in the packets
are also available on the website; including
the Quality Assurance Forms for all species.
The premium book is also available in a printable
form.
The Benefit Auction is quickly approaching.
I hope you have reserved your table. We are
listing some highlighted items on the website.
Check them out. If for some reason you are
unable to attend but would like to bid on something
up for auction, please send a “BID” into
us and we will be sure to have it acknowledged.
The link will be added to the website on March
1st to except online entries through Sho Works.
I’m going to encourage exhibitors or
leaders to use this option. This way you can
be sure that you have entered everything properly
for yourself or your club. There is an instruction
sheet posted on the Jr. Show website as well
to walk you through the online entering process.
It is appearing to be fairly user friendly.
If you are a new club planning on coming to
the Show this year, and would like to enter
on line. Please call the office and leave your
club/chapter name and at least a contact name.
We will then upload that information on the
web so you will be up and going.
GOATS: Anyone planning or even thinking about
showing market goats at this years show. Please
see the information on the website. We are
attempting to get ideas of the number of goats
we may be planning to have. Drop us note or
even better, send in your entry form as soon
as possible so will are prepared.
Think Spring, hopefully just around the corner.

Happy
Holidays to Everyone
|
|
As we are all very busy preparing for this
big Holiday, I continue to be busy as well
in preparation for the 2007 show. Oh my,
it is coming quickly.
The Gala will be here before we know it and
then right into the show. The Gala will be
held February 24th. Don’t let the time
pass and forgot to reserve your table or buy
your individual tickets for the Gala. Call
the office if you need any information.
I’m working fast and furious on getting
all the different contest forms updated so
they will all be posted on the website. We
will be sending out the leader/advisor packets
right after the first of the year so be looking
for that information.
Again, I wish each and every one of you a
Very Joyous New Year!!

New
Rules Adopted & QA Forms to be on Website
|
|
The November 5th General Membership meeting
went well. Thank you for attending if you were
able to.
The website will soon have the schedule for
Jr. Show up on it and there will be many usable
features. The QA forms for all species will be
there this year, as well as the link to Sho Works,
which is our on-line entry system. You will have
the option to use this method or by mail. But
surely don’t be afraid to try it on-line.
PLEASE. Don’t enter both by mail and on-line
though. I would then have a mess, and the barn
superintendents would have a mess with penning
as well.
I have hopes of the premium book also being
online in a printable form. This will save tremendously
on postage if we don’t have to send out
as many copies.
We are going to do ear tags differently this
year. Ears tags will be sent out to clubs or
individually or can be picked up in the office
when we receive your paid entry. We do not want
to ship out bunches of tags to either be lost
and/or not used. We will see how this works.
Several new rules have been voted in this year,
so be sure to make yourself familiar with the
premium/rule book. This is your responsibility
to know the rules. We will make special notes
in as many places as possible to make bring attention
to these areas.
We are going to really try to use the web site
a lot to get information to you. But, please
remember that although we hope the website is
accurate, it will not be the “OFFICIAL” listing.
Please continue to follow the website as it
will be continually changing. If you should have
any questions, please do not hesitate to contact
the office.

Junior
Show to Implement On-Line Entry System
|
Well, as I sit to write an update I don’t
quite know where to begin. A lot has happened,
since Harvey Wallace last updated this space.
As it was Harvey’s News, now it is Lynn’s
Lines, or something to that effect.
For those of you that don’t know me or
I have not met, I’m Lynn Cotter, and have
been working in the Jr. Show office since March.
I have been though Jr. Show in 2006 and am very
excited for the 2007 show that will quickly arrive.
First of all, though we all need to remember
the Auction that is scheduled for February 24th
and will be held at the Fairgrounds. This is
the MAJOR money maker for the Jr. Show so plan
to attend. A good time is always had by all.
I have been working all summer on Sho Works.
This is the new computer program that will be
implemented for this year’s show. I hope
to have all the kinks worked out prior to the
show, but please bear with me. We will have an
online entry system this year that you are all
more that welcome to use and try out. This will
truly be a learning experience for all of us.
If we are all patient and work together, it will
come out great.
